Christian Eriksen’s drawn-out contract negotiations with Tottenham could be resolved this week with the Daily Mail reporting that he is close to agreeing a deal.
The 24-year-old currently earns £32,000-a-week at White Hart Lane and I’m sure you’ve all heard the rumours that he was holding out for £150,000-a-week which would have smashed our wage structure. Something which Eriksen and his agent recently hinted at not being true.
Instead the new five-year deal is said to be around £80,000-a-week which would put the Denmark international into the bracket of the top earners at the club.
Eriksen’s lack of form this season has been a talking point for many Spurs fans, so the sooner he can get the contract signed the better.
Mauricio Pochetten even recently acknowledged the fact that his playmaker is going through a difficult time.
‘Maybe it is a difficult period for him,’
‘This is a player with real commitment to the club and sometimes maybe your performance is not the performance you expect.
‘But we are very happy with him, he is a great player and very important for us.’
I wonder if Levy is keeping news of the deal back until deadline day to try and appease the fans? What do you think?
