Eriksen will likely sign a new deal claims football journalist

Tottenham Hotspur will be keeping an eye open for the odd bargain in this year’s January transfer window, but in truth, they have other negotiations to sort.

For this season, it is just as important, if not more so, for Spurs to tie down their key men to new long-term contracts.

Spurs have already penned the likes of Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Heung-Min Son, Erik Lamela, Davinson Sanchez, and even Pochettino himself to new deals this season.

Next up is Christian Eriksen, after Tottenham recently extended the deals of defensive duo Vertonghen and Alderweireld by a year each.

Eriksen is the next name that springs to mind in terms of a new contract, as the Great Dane has entered the final 18 months of his current deal.

Tottenham must sign him up now, or risk losing him on a free in 2020, or even having to sell him for a profit this summer.

Football journalist Alistair Gold believes Eriksen will sign a new deal at the club, stating he sees no reason why the Dane wouldn’t.

Gold said (Football London): “Eriksen’s comments to the Danish media last night after the game were certainly more positive than recent speculation that he is looking for a new challenge suggests.

“That certainly sounds like a compromise can be found. Much will depend of course on how hard Real Madrid try in the summer, but for now Eriksen is happy at Tottenham and if Spurs can show him where they’re heading and he’s convinced that Pochettino is sticking around I can’t see why he won’t sign a bumper new deal.

“He’s a vital player in Pochettino’s philosophy. Playmakers who run more than any other player on the pitch are one in a million and the Spurs boss knows that.”
