‘Even before’ – Pundit makes Spurs North London Derby prediction Arsenal will hate

Noel Whelan believes Tottenham could earn a place in next season’s Champions League before they face Arsenal if Heung-min Son can maintain his strong run of form.

Son has been in inspired form of late, with his latest display yielding a hat-trick in Spurs’ 4-0 win over Aston Villa last Saturday.

The victory at Villa Park extended the gap to rivals Arsenal to three points, with Spurs managing to capitalise on the Gunners’ earlier defeat at home to Brighton.

And former Leeds striker Whelan feels Tottenham’s momentum, spearheaded by the goals from Son, could be enough to cement the club’s position in the top four before the crucial North London derby on May 12.

He told Football Insider: “When you look at the incredible numbers Son is putting up – you’ve got to say Tottenham are favourites for that fourth spot.

“The front three as a whole, wow. What can you say? They are one of the most potent attacks in world football right now.

“The intelligence of Harry Kane is just next level. To provide those flick-ons for Son to go after – putting him in that position is only going to have one outcome.

“For me, Tottenham are in the driving seat. If Son can keep firing, they’ll have it wrapped up even before the north London derby.”

Son is currently Tottenham’s top scorer in the Premier League with 17 tallies and trails only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot (Transfermarkt). The South Korea international has managed to notch six goals and an assist in just his last three games.

Son has been one of the driving forces behind Tottenham’s campaign and his goals have been key in the side earning important results.

His connection with Harry Kane has continued to sparkle, but the new bond with Dejan Kulusevski should not be overlooked either.
