‘Even more’ – Conte believes Ivan Perisic injury is still holding him back

Antonio Conte has said that he expects more from Ivan Perisic over the coming weeks and months, insisting that we have not seen the best of the Croat at Tottenham until now.

Perisic was the first of the seven summer signings to arrive through the door in the summer, with the Croat signing on a free transfer after his contract with Inter Milan ran out.

It was Antonio Conte who converted the 33-year-old into a left wing-back during his time at the San Siro, and he has been used in rotation with Ryan Sessegnon in the same role since arriving at Spurs.

Although Perisic has already registered four assists across all competitions (transfermarkt), we are yet to see the best of him in a Tottenham shirt as he continues to get accustomed to the Premier League and his new teammates.

Conte has now cited the calf injury the wing-back had in the summer as the reason why he has endured a slow start to his Spurs career.

The Tottenham head coach told Sky Italia: “Perisic arrived with a serious calf problem, he’s recovering, it’s not what I know yet, but he has already given us a hand in terms of assists and personality, I’m sure he will give us even more.”

We have already seen glimpses of the quality that Perisic can offer in the final third but I have been a little disappointed with the former Inter man defensively. I expect the 33-year-old to get better as he gets more game time under his belt over the coming weeks.
