Everton could be without key man for FA Cup clash against Spurs

According to The Liverpool Echo, James Rodriguez is an injury doubt for Everton for their FA Cup fifth-round clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

Spurs travel to Goodison Park tomorrow hoping to build on their 2-0 win over West Brom on Sunday and knowing that a place in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup is at stake.

Tottenham have been without the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Dele Alli for the past few weeks, although Harry Kane’s return to action on Sunday was a big boost for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Liverpool Echo now reveals that Everton might also be without one of their key players in Rodriguez, who picked up a calf injury in their 3-3 against Manchester United on Saturday.

The Colombian was withdrawn by Carlo Ancelotti with a little over 20 minutes left on the clock at Old Trafford and the Toffees boss has revealed that the midfielder’s injury will have to be assessed.

Ancelotti said: “He (Rodriguez) had a problem on his calf at the end of the first half (against Man Utd).

“We tried for 10-15 minutes [of the second-half] but the calf was tight. I prefer to take him off.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Everton are a strong side with or without Rodriguez and winning at Goodison Park is never easy. I expect Mourinho to name a very strong line up as the cup competitions have now become the priorities for us this season given how much we have fallen off the pace in the Premier League.
