Everton defender issues warning to Spurs and other rivals

With just a third of the season left to play, the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League is starting to heat up.

Although Spurs have made up considerable ground on Chelsea since Jose Mourinho’s appointment back in November, they still sit in sixth place, four points adrift of the Blues.

Manchester United are just two points below Spurs and are also well in the race while Sheffield United and Wolves are also proving that they have the staying power to push until the end.

Everton defender Seamus Coleman has now warned the teams fighting for Champions League qualification that the Toffees also need to be taken seriously in the race.

Everton have seen an upturn in form since the arrival of Carlo Ancelloti and currently find themselves in seventh place, just a point below Spurs, although they have played a game more.

Speaking about the club’s targets this season, Coleman told Everton’s official website: “We’re trying to catch those European places.

“A few months ago, we probably didn’t think that was possible but we’re playing well now and just looking forward to every game.

“We’ve got to push for Europe. I think this club needs European football and we all want that.

“Where this football club wants to get in the next three, four, five years, it has to be wanting European football every year and if we can get it this year.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While I don’t view Everton as a big threat compared to a couple of other teams in the race for fourth, the fact is that one cannot rule anybody out at this point. All teams competing for the Champions League qualification have been extremely inconsistent over the last couple of months. So any side that can put a run together will make themselves the favourites.
