Everton manager reacts to transfer links with former Spurs man Serge Aurier

Everton manager Rafa Benitez has seemingly put an end to transfer speculation linking former Tottenham defender Serge Aurier with a move to the club.

The Toffees currently have some injury issues to manage at right-back with Seamus Coleman nursing a hamstring problem on the sidelines.

Reports emerged that Everton were looking at short-term options to bolster the squad which included Ivorian full-back Aurier, however, Benitez has played down his side’s chances of making such a move, claiming he would want to see a more long-term solution.

On the rumours, Benitez told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I don’t see a clear option with that. We have to think about the future and not just the short term.

“Now we have to find the solutions but we have to be sure the solutions aren’t just for a couple of months, just the rest of the season and the next year.”

Aurier is on the hunt for a side of his own and has not registered a single minute of football at club level this season, after mutually agreeing with Spurs to terminate his contract last month.

The 28-year-old made the move to England in 2017 and tallied 110 appearances in total for Spurs, with 77 of those coming in the Premier League.

It looks like Aurier’s search for a new club is set to continue this season, with Everton now distancing themselves from making a move.

There is probably a club out there that would be willing to take a punt on him, considering he can offer something, despite the risk of making a defensive error still lingering.
