Everton player names former Spurs star as the toughest opponent he has ever faced

Everton midfielder, Tom Davies, has named former Spurs star, Mousa Dembele, as the toughest opponent he has ever faced throughout his career.

Dembele was a rock in the middle of the park for Spurs for six and a half years after signing from Fulham in the summer of 2013. However, he arguably came into his own once Pochettino joined the club and reinvented the Belgian’s role.

Dembele forged great partnerships with the likes of Sandro, Eric Dier, and Victor Wanyama during his time at the club and helped the Lilywhites mount multiple title challenges.

Therefore, it was a sad moment for the fans when Dembele left Tottenham to sign for Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F last January.

While the Belgian international didn’t win any silverware during his time at North London,  he was always a tough opponent to face. Even Chelsea and France star, Ngolo Kante, once named Dembele as one of his toughest opponents (Metro).

Tom Davies has now become the latest opponent to rave about the former Spurs star. When asked who his toughest ever opponent was, the Toffees star told Everton’s official website: “Mousa Dembele, who played at Spurs. He was very quick and powerful. He’s a top player, him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Dembele is arguably the most underrated player that has ever played in the Premier League. His name seldom features when people discuss the best midfielders to grace the league, but those who have played with or against the Belgian always rave about his extraordinary ability.
