Everton star speaks out on potential transfer amidst Spurs reported interest

Lucas Digne completed his move to Everton in August last year for a reported £18 million (Sky Sports). Having played for both Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona, the deal looked a very promising one for the Toffees.

Digne definitely caught the eye of many in his maiden season at Everton. The Frenchman managed 4 goals and 4 assists and was instrumental to Everton’s runs of good form during this campaign. The full-back also won player of the year at Everton for his exploits during the season.

Since the climax of the 18/19 Premier League season, the Daily Star have reported that Digne has attracted interest from a host of clubs, including Tottenham.

Digne himself has commented on rumours surrounding his future: “A return to France, OL? I’m not aware. I am aware of the interest of other clubs, but not of Lyon,” (RMC Sport).

Rumours have also suggested that Pochettino is keen on bringing Fulham’s starlet Ryan Sessegnon to the club as a long-term replacement for current left-back Danny Rose. With reports of interest for multiple players at left back it does appear that this is a position that Pochettino wants to sure up in summer (Talk Sport).

It seems, however, that any deal for Digne very much depends on the future of Danny Rose. While the Spurs defender was linked with a move to Everton last summer, rumours now suggest that any deal for Digne would have to be one that involved Rose going the other way (Mirror).

Personally, I believe both Digne or Sessegnon would act as great signings for Spurs. I would however, also like to see Danny Rose sign a new contract this summer and so if signing one of those two meant losing Rose I’d rather we didn’t.

Although these rumours suggest we are showing clear, early intent in the market I’d like to think Pochettino and Co. would be more focused on improving the right-hand side of the defence, first and foremost.
