Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur preview – Crucial game in the fight for Europe

Following their loss to Manchester United on Sunday, Spurs travel to Goodison Park in a must-win game to keep their top-four hopes alive.

Despite such an impressive start to the season, the hosts themselves have only one win in their last six in all competitions, and so will also be looking to put themselves back into European contention.

With six points now separating Spurs from West Ham in fourth, the visitors cannot afford to lose if they are to salvage their season, an aim that remains possible if they can pull off the unlikely feats of making the top four and beating Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

A stern test, however, awaits them at Goodison, having lost to Everton both in the league and the FA Cup earlier this season.

The hosts not only have the opportunity to complete a treble over an unsettled Spurs side this week, but will also leapfrog them into seventh if they manage a win.

This would move the Toffees just four points off fourth position, giving Carlo Ancelotti’s men hope of clinching Champions League football for next season.

Personal glory is also on the line – with Harry Kane currently sitting top of both goalscoring and assist tables, he’ll be looking to maintain that by continuing his good form and sending Spurs closer to the top four.

Everton, meanwhile, will look to show their early season form and get their own campaign back on track.

A crucial game for Jose Mourinho’s Spurs career, as his side look to salvage their season against an Everton team who themselves are in need of a win to realise the potential they’ve shown in spurts this year.
