Ben Foster has insisted that Hugo Lloris was quite obviously fouled by Callum Wilson in the lead-up to Newcastle’s first goal on Sunday.
Lloris came out of his area to deal with a ball over the top of the Tottenham backline and the Spurs captain got a touch on the ball to knock it past Wilson before seemingly being clattered into by the Newcastle striker.
The referee did not blow for a foul, allowing Wilson to scoop the ball into an empty net. The Tottenham players were extremely unhappy with the decision but VAR did not intervene to overturn the on-pitch referee’s call.
Spurs did not recover from going a goal down, with Eddie Howe’s men eventually emerging 2-1 winners from the game.
Foster has now taken to social media to point out that the referee would have blown for a foul if an outfield player was brought down the way Lloris was.
The GK is the player in control of the ball, if he beats the striker to the ball, and the striker is in the way, unfortunately it’s a foul. There’s nothing the striker can do about it, but it’s still a foul!

Spurs Web Opinion
It was obvious in the replay that Callum Wilson put his arm out to block Lloris even though the Newcastle striker was not in control of the ball. It was a clear and obvious error from the referee and VAR should have stepped in to make the referee re-watch the incident.
