‘Everyone loves English football’ – Man linked with Spurs speaks on rumours

Rennes manager Bruno Genesio, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has insisted that he remains happy with the Ligue 1 club.

Although they have had some inconsistent results over recent months, Tottenham have been improving steadily since Antonio Conte took over five months ago.

Despite the team’s progress under the Italian, there continues to be a question mark over his future, with some sources suggesting he could walk away from the North London club (Telegraph).

Mauricio Pochettino is said to be open to a return to Spurs if Conte walks away, with the Argentine still thought to hold a lot of affection for the Lilywhites (Football Insider).

Another manager who is reportedly on Tottenham’s wishlist is Genesio (RMC Sport), who has done an exceptional job at Rennes since taking over at the club 12 months ago.

While the 55-year-old professed his love for the Premier League, he has insisted that he remains fully focused on his project at Roazhon Park.

When asked about the speculation linking him with English clubs, Genesio told Foot Mercato: “Regarding all the information about me and the players, you always have to take a step back and focus on the job.

“I don’t know at all (whether the interest is real). I don’t have any concrete info on anything. What I know is that I’m good at Stade Rennais. There are nine games left to play this season. And I still have a year on my contract. I don’t pay attention to these things.”

“What interests me is to devote myself to my work so that we are as efficient as possible until the end of the season. Three things are important in my job. The sports project, the human project and our personal ambitions. I’m happy to be here. Everything is going well.

“Obviously, everyone loves English football and everyone wants to play or train there one day. But I am fully involved in the Stade Rennais project and I have no reason to think about anything else, neither now nor in the very near future. On the contrary.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs are not likely to be on the lookout for a new manager this summer as I do not think there is any chance of Conte walking away. The reason I am convinced of that is because the Tottenham hierarchy seem really invested in making the appointment work and so, I believe that Conte will be backed in the transfer market this summer.

However, that does not mean that the club will not be on the lookout for future managerial prospects as Conte does not have a history of staying at clubs for more than a couple of years. However, Genesio’s stock may not be as high in a year as 12 months is a long time in football.
