Jack Wilshere has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur made a mistake by holding on to Harry Kane over the summer and the decision is creating a negative vibe around the club.

Few would have expected Kane’s form to be as poor as it has been this season, with the striker having found the back of the net just once in ten Premier League matches.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that the arrival of Antonio Conte will spark the 28-year-old into life this season.

There were several encouraging signs in Kane’s performance against Albania on Friday, with the striker netting a perfect hat-trick in the first-half to help England to a 5-0 win.

The England captain certainly looked much hungrier and sharper against the Albanians than he has been so far this season.

Wilshere pointed to the lack of chances Spurs are creating as the reason behind Kane’s goal drought for his club.

The former Arsenal midfielder told talkSPORT: “I think with Harry Kane, there has been like a negative vibe around Tottenham, hasn’t there?

“He wanted to leave. Change of manager, it didn’t work out and they aren’t really performing that well.

“I don’t know the stats, but are they creating chances? I don’t know.”

In hindsight, one can make the argument that Spurs should have cashed in on Kane during the summer. However, the other side of that coin is that Conte might have not come to Tottenham had the club sold Kane. So, if the Italian get the striker firing on all cylinders, what happened during the summer will be forgotten.
