Ex-Arsenal striker suggests PL star as Hugo Lloris successor at Spurs

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has claimed that Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier would be a decent choice for Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris successor.

Reports over recent weeks (Evening Standard) have indicated that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici have already held talks over a succession plan for Hugo Lloris, with the Frenchman’s current contract running out in 2024 (Transfermarkt).

Meslier, who has been consistent between the sticks for Leeds over the past couple of seasons, has been mooted as a target for Spurs, with journalist Phil Hay revealing on The Athletic’s Phil Hay Show last month that the North London club are considering a move for the 22-year-old.

Another name who is thought to be on Tottenham’s radar is Everton and England number one Jordan Pickford.

90min claimed back in July that the Lilywhites enquired about Pickford’s availability while negotiating with the Toffees for Richarlison, with the report suggesting that the 28-year-old is seen as a potential target for next summer.

Campbell has now told Spurs to steer clear of the Everton star and pursue Meslier instead.

He said to Stadium Astro: “Leave Jordan Pickford alone. I think you need somebody young. But you need somebody with experience. Meslier has the experience. But, no disrespect to Leeds, the jump from Leeds to Spurs is huge.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham are looking for a replacement for Lloris, Meslier would be the one to go for as he could potentially be our number-one for the next decade. However, I do not think Spurs should be in a hurry to replace Frenchman, who I believe is certainly not past his best.
