Ex-England manager slams Spurs team for getting Mauricio Pochettino the sack

Tottenham Hotspur have certainly improved in terms of their results since Jose Mourinho took over as the new head coach in North London, even if the performances are still lacking.

The Special One was given the job just hours after Daniel Levy and the Spurs board sacked Mauricio Pochettino back in late November.

Poch had been at the helm of the Lilywhites for five and a half years, taking them from the Europa League to a Champions League final in that time.

Unfortunately for the Argentine, he had been unable to deliver a trophy and was enduring a woeful 2019 in terms of consistent results.

Spurs were already 12 points off the top four when Pochettino was given his marching orders, with Mourinho bringing the club back to within a point of Chelsea.

Ex-England manager Sam Allardyce has now claimed that the Tottenham players got Pochettino the sack and it was out of order.

He told talkSPORT: “The form of the whole side is smoke. What they did to Mauricio Pochettino was tragic. What they did to get him the sack was unbelievable, it was really out of order.

“Sometimes, as a manager, you can never trust your players, and he must feel very let down that the performances turned into what they did, and Jose was asked to pick it up from there and he has found it difficult.

“There is not the commitment and fluency that we saw from Tottenham over the last four years, which means there is great damage done to that squad that needs repairing.”
