Ex-footballer says Tottenham need to spend in January

Tottenham Hotspur have had a miraculous start to the season this year, and despite a shock loss at home to Wolves, are still enjoying their best ever start to a campaign.

Spurs currently sit third in the Premier League, behind the firm favourites Liverpool and Manchester City.

Pochettino’s men are also in the knockout stages of the Champions League, as well as the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The FA Cup is set to kick off for the top Prem sides in the new year too, so Spurs will be fighting for silverware on four fronts.

The one thing Tottenham are missing at the moment is strength and depth in the central midfield position, with injuries to Dembele, Wanyama, and Dier.

The first two may also be on their way in the January transfer window, so Poch and Levy may choose to strengthen in this particular position.

Martin Keown believes that Tottenham need to invest in the new year.

He said (Daily Mail): “I think they do. Son Heung-min has been outstanding this season but will travel to the Asian Cup after Tottenham’s clash with Manchester United on January 13.

“Spurs felt his absence when he was away with South Korea in August and he will be a huge loss to them again.

“The lack of squad depth compared with Manchester City and Liverpool means Mauricio Pochettino has had to work even harder with his players to get the same results as his rivals.

“But I am convinced that he believes Tottenham can win this title. Inside that dressing room, the message will not be, ‘Let’s give it our best shot.’ It will be, ‘Let’s win it’.”
