Mark Lawrenson expects the Premier League fixture between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur this evening to be a closely contested match.
Tottenham are in the much better form coming into the game, having recorded ten points from four matches. West Ham, on the other hand, struggled considerably at the start of the campaign and lost their first three matches before picking up their first win at the weekend.
Antonio Conte’s side, however, have issues of their own to deal with as they have not performed at their best this season, particularly in the first half of matches.
Lawrenson believes that the hosts are on the way to finding their feet again, so despite the north Londoners’ recent successes in terms of results, the London derby will end up being a close call on the day.
Lawro’s Prediction: West Ham 1 – 1 Tottenham
Speaking to Paddy Power, Lawrenson said: “That was a big win for West Ham against Villa. I can only see them getting better too as they’ve bought some really quality players over the summer and are working them into the team.”
“Tottenham have been really good this season apart from the first half at Chelsea where they were torn apart. I can see this being a really tight, closely-fought derby and would expect it to finish in a 1-1 draw – provided no one messes with the pre-match lasagne.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Tottenham have not shifted into full gear just yet, but they have got favourable results despite their uninspiring displays. If that’s the case, it is difficult to see how a struggling, albeit improving, West Ham side would give them a run for their money.
Moyes seems to have sewn together his new look squad against Villa, which might just help them to trouble Spurs on certain occasions. However, the visitors have more than enough firepower in their side to come out on the winning side of this derby.
