Ex-Nottingham Forest star makes prediction about Djed Spence amidst Spurs links

Former Nottingham Forest defender Brian Laws has predicted that Djed Spence could play for England amidst reported interest from Tottenham this season.

Spence has been enjoying an impressive Championship campaign on loan at Forest from Middlesborough which led to Premier League interest last month (Sky Sports).

Tottenham are one of those said to be keen on the 21-year-old, with GOAL reporting earlier this week that Antonio Conte’s side are currently favourites to complete a transfer this summer.

With so much speculation surrounding Spence’s future, Laws believes his talents can take him as far as making appearances for England at some point down the line.

He told The Athletic: “I could see him playing for England, even in a position where there is unbelievable competition.

“I loved Matty Cash. At one stage people were talking about him eventually joining the 20 or so full-backs we seem to have who are good enough to challenge for an England place, Spence has a bit more about him.”

Spence, who signed a contract with Middlesbrough until 2024 before heading to Forest on loan, has inspired the side to a push for promotion this term.

He has clocked up 32 appearances in all competitions while notching two goals and three assists from right wing-back (Transfermarkt).

Spence is at an age where he can still grow and the fact that so many clubs are interested in him is a testament to his performances this season.

If he does manage to secure a big move, he will have the best chance to push for a place in the England set-up if he continues to develop.
