Ex-player claims that Spurs will now put a 12-month delay on this key signing

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of players this summer, one of them being exciting Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon (Sun).

Sessegnon set the Championship alight in the 2017/18 season, scoring 15 goals and setting up six more, earning himself a spot in the team of the year.

However, upon making the jump to the Premier League, the 19-year-old struggled to adapt and maintain such impressive performances week in week out.

Despite getting relegated from the Prem last season, Fulham are still said to want a whopping £45m for the winger this summer (Daily Mail).

Sessegnon has just one year left on his current deal at Fulham, meaning he could be available for free at the end of next season.

Former Blackpool star, Charlie Adam, believes that Spurs will simply wait a year before scooping the up and coming star for nothing in 2020.

He believes that Danny Rose will be first choice next season either way, so Spurs may as well wait and save themselves some money.

Sessegnon is apparently keen on a Spurs move as he wants to remain in London and play under Pochettino (Guardian).

Adam said (BBC Radio 5 Live): “I think Pochettino has thought, ‘I’m only going to buy players that are better than what I’ve got.’

“A lot of managers will say that but there’s not many players that are in Tottenham’s price range and salary range that they can afford to attract because it’s going to cost them massive money and massive salary and they don’t work like that.

“This lad [Tanguy Ndombele] coming in, £60m is a lot of money but he won’t be earning what Harry Kane’s earning, he’ll be below that bracket. It suits everybody.

“For me, I thought midfield is the place they need to strengthen and it looks like they’re going to do that.

“The big thing is, [Kieran] Tripper and [Danny] Rose, are they going to leave? But Sessegnon, if they wait another year they get him on a free.

“Why would you want to pay £25m now when you’ve got Danny Rose still on a year’s contract?

“There’s no need for that. He probably might replace him next summer. They’re getting a £25m player next summer.

“They’ll wait, probably sign an agreement in January and it’ll be done.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

While I agree with Adam, I am also wary of other clubs coming in a snatching Sessegnon if Spurs wait too long. I also think that the player could have an impact next season if used in the correct way, coming off the bench and starting the odd match. He would also gain valuable experience in the Prem, rather than wasting another year in the Championship.
