Ex-player claims these three Spurs stars are ‘vulnerable’ under Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur have been in poor form since Christmas, with just two wins coming against Brighton on Boxing Day and Middlesbrough in an FA Cup replay.

Spurs have lost to Liverpool and Southampton, while recording draws against Norwich and Watford since Xmas.

The Lilywhites also now have a problem up front with Harry Kane out injured with a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring.

Lucas Moura has been filling in as a striker, while Dele Alli has dropped into a deeper role to cover the holes left by injured Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele. Harry Winks has also been welcomed back into the side to bolster the midfield.

However, Tony Cascarino has now claimed that all three of these Spurs stars are vulnerable within the new regime, as they are not Mourinho-type players.

He claims that technically talented players are often seen as luxuries and have never been popular under Mourinho.

Cascarino said (TalkSport Breakfast Show 19/01/20 at 7:10 am): “There are certain people in the game who felt there are certain players who are vulnerable at Tottenham. Harry Winks was one, Dele Alli was another and Lucas Moura you can put in there.

“Any player that relies hugely on his technical ability, that you can say sometimes is a bit more of a luxury player, but are talented players. Mourinho has never liked them. He has always had players who are functional, mainly.

“He’s had flair. He had Arjen Robben and Damien Duff [at Chelsea]. But if you look at the list of wingers that he’s had from Joe Cole to many, many others that have left Stamford Bridge, he has never been a winger man or a number 10 man. Most of them have left pretty quickly.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Lucas Moura and Dele Alli have featured in the vast majority of games for Spurs and Winks looks to be playing his way into Mourinho’s thoughts, so I am not sure where this logic comes from for Cascarino. I am sure that Jose is capable of seeing who the best players are and picking the team based on that.
