Ex-player claims this unlikely Spurs star could be the ‘biggest improvement under Mourinho’

Tottenham Hotspur have already seen a number of vast improvements under Jose Mourinho since Mauricio Pochettino was sacked and replaced last month.

Spurs have scored an incredible 16 goals in five games under the Special One, as well as recording their first Premier League clean sheet since September against Burnley.

Mourinho is getting the best out of Dele Alli again, pushing him back into that favoured number ten role, with the attacker grabbing another two assists this weekend.

Toby Alderweireld has also returned to form, with Jan Vertonghen seemingly now first-choice at left-back too, and Lucas Moura finally getting a run in the first team.

However, Danny Mills has argued that Serge Aurier could be the biggest improvement under Mourinho as he tips the right-back for a positive 2020.

Mills was asked which Tottenham star he would label ‘one to watch’ next year, and he went for the Ivorian defender, who was always seen as a liability until Mourinho arrived.

Mills said (Football Insider): “Maybe Serge Aurier. I look at Tottenham’s side, it’s fairly obvious who you’d pick [to play].

“There are a few issues in midfield, Ndombele and Winks or Sissoko and Dier has come in a
couple of times.

“But right-back is a bit of an issue, but, again, if Mourinho can get hold of Aurier on that right- hand side, coach him defensively, give him some belief… he’s a good player.

“He could be the biggest improvement under Mourinho.”
