Ex-Prem boss writes Tottenham off as title contenders

Tottenham are off to an unbeaten start this campaign despite not signing a single new player in the summer transfer window, the first team ever not to do so.

After two games, the Lilywhites actually have their best points tally in three years, something that they will be hopeful to kick on from.

However, ex-Prem boss Carlos Carvalhal was already written off the stadiumless Spurs for title contention.

He told SkySports: ”They have a very good team, with a very good idea, they are one of the teams that take a few more risks, put the defenders too high when they’re playing and sometimes lose their balance, something that the teams that must be consistent to win all the games don’t and they can lose some points because of that.

“Sometimes with a long ball to the channels they have some problems to adapt their positions, but they’re all the time playing on the offensive.

“They have everything to fight, but in my opinion to be more consistent, this team has to be more ready when they lose the ball.

“That’s not a negative criticism, it’s a positive criticism because they go on the offensive, but sometimes they are open at the back.

“If they defend a little better they can fight for first position.”

Tottenham have finished in the top three in their last three Premier League seasons, but could their defence really be holding them back?

After all, the likes of Kieran Trippier, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, and Ben Davies are some of the most talented defensive players in the country.
