Ex-Premier League defender singles out Harry Kane for criticism

Tottenham Hotspur were held to yet another draw at home in the Premier League at the weekend as Sheffield United more than earned their 1-1 result.

Spurs took the lead in the second half through Heung Min Son, only for Sheffield to equalise twice, with the first being ruled out controversially via VAR.

While Spurs pushed for the winner at the end of the match, they were unable to find that crucial second goal, dropping two more points at home.

It also made three matches in a row in the league that Spurs had avoided winning despite leading the game 1-0 (Liverpool, Everton, and Sheffield).

With Kane out due to illness the week before against Everton, and having played in midweek against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia, he looked a shadow of his usual self against the Blades.

Ex-Premier League defender, Mario Melchiot, singled the England captain out for looking isolated, not being dangerous, and not creating his own opportunities.

He said (Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast Show – TalkSPORT 11/11/19 at 9:15 am): “When I looked at Harry Kane, I’m a fan of Harry Kane, I’m not saying this because he’s the player I love watching, this is a player that is normally dangerous and creates a lot of opportunity for himself. And I clearly didn’t see that over the weekend. I felt that he was isolated and I don’t think he was supported as much as he is.”
