Ex-Spurs boss names two PL managers who would be an ‘upgrade’ on Nuno

Tim Sherwood has claimed that Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl would be an upgrade on Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham Hotspur.

The ex-Spurs man added that Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter would also be a more suitable manager for the North London club.

Former Wolves boss Nuno was appointed as the new Spurs manager at the end of June, bringing an end to a lengthy search for Jose Mourinho’s replacement in the dugout.

He came under some scrutiny following two successive 3-0 defeats at the hands of Crystal Palace and Chelsea, after opening the season with three straight victories.

The appointment, which handed Nuno a two-year contract at the club, was divisive among fans, and former Spurs boss Sherwood believes there are two specific managers in the Premier League that would suit the job more than him.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (1:33 pm, September 25, 2021) before the North London Derby, he said: “I can think of two managers who would take the job tomorrow who are certainly an upgrade on the style that Tottenham fans want and what they demand.

“I think there’s Potter at Brighton, and the guy you mentioned earlier, Hasenhuttl.

“I think he deals with the pressure, he has been beat 9-0 twice, he comes back from that, he still has the identity of how his team wants to play, on the front foot, give the fans what they want to see.”

Both Potter and Hasenhuttl have established their own styles of play at Brighton and Southampton respectively, and have been previously seen as pragmatic managers.

Nuno hasn’t had much time to make his mark at Spurs, though, so we will have to give him a chance to do that before revisiting this.
