Ex-Spurs defender claims Leicester man is ‘exactly the kind of player’ Tottenham should buy

Tottenham Hotspur have been in absolute turmoil at right-back this season, ever since they let Kieran Trippier leave the club in the summer.

Trippier transferred to Atletico Madrid after a poor season in North London, despite being one of the England heroes at the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Since then, Pochettino has cycled through five first-team right-backs already this season, despite only being 12 Premier League games in.

Kyle Walker-Peters started the first three in the Premier League, while Serge Aurier has been first choice of late. Davinson Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko have both covered there, and Juan Foyth is now throwing his name in the mix.

Ex-Spurs man, Jason Cundy, has now claimed that Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira is exactly the kind of player Tottenham should be signing.

He believes that the Foxes full-back is one of the best in the country, with Spurs’ right-backs being nowhere near that same level.

He said (TalkSPORT): “He is the perfect example of what a modern-day right-back is, they’re not just defenders.

“If you look at Trent Alexander-Arnold, he is more than just a defender, and I think that Pereira is one of the best right-backs in the country.

“Leicester are very lucky to have him. They paid about £20m for him. When you look at other clubs who are looking for a right-back, like Arsenal, they are always going to be that team to compare Leicester too, and Spurs.

“Spurs’ right-backs are nowhere near. They released Trippier in the summer and Pereira is exactly the kind of player they should be signing at right-back.

“I know Vardy gets all the plaudits and I know Maddison does – and he was brilliant at the weekend.

“This is not just based on what I have seen this season and at the weekend – he scored a brilliant goal last season at Manchester City, if you remember it – he gets in those advanced areas.”
