Ex-Spurs man claims club have no chance of convincing manager to join

Paul Robinson has said that while Marcelo Bielsa would be a shrewd appointment for Tottenham, the North London club have no chance of convincing the Leeds boss to jump ship this summer.

Several pundits, including former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara, have endorsed Bielsa for the vacant Tottenham job.

Some sources have indicated that the Argentine has no intention of taking over at Spurs or living in London and that he is instead on the verge of signing a new contract at Leeds.

However, this claim has been contradicted by Chris Sutton, who revealed that his sources say the main reason Bielsa is yet to sign a new deal with Leeds is due to his head being turned by the Spurs job.

Robinson stated that the 65-year-old’s work at Elland Road suggests that he can potentially get a lot more out of the current Tottenham squad.

However, he insisted that his former club will not be able to able to lure the experienced coach away from Leeds.

When asked about the speculation linking Bielsa to Tottenham, Robinson told Football Insider: “From a Spurs point of view, I would love to see Bielsa there.

“When you compare the Spurs and Leeds squad there is not much comparison, and that is no disrespect to the Leeds squad. Tottenham’s squad is made up of top international players.

“Look at what Bielsa got from that group of Leeds players in the Championship, it makes you wonder what he could get from those Spurs players. It could be unbelievable.

“From a Leeds point of view though it would be an absolute disaster. It really would.

“He would be a very shrewd appointment but I don’t think they’ve got any chance of luring him away.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As much as I love Bielsa’s style of play, I am sceptical as to whether his dictatorial and aloof style would work with big-name stars. I also do not think he is the sort of coach who would be tempted to quit Leeds just because a bigger club comes calling. So, I do not think these rumours have any legs.
