Ex-Spurs man claims this current star has handled contract situation poorly

Former Tottenham goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, has blasted Danny Rose for the way the left-back has handled talk of his contract and future at Spurs.

The defender publicly stated under Mauricio Pochettino that he wanted to see out his contract at Tottenham Hotspur after Levy refused to offer him a new deal (Guardian).

Jose Mourinho’s arrival to the club has seemingly changed nothing about Rose’s mind.

Speaking to the media after the loss against Bayern Munich, the 29-year-old mentioned he had not spoken to Jose Mourinho about any transfer plans (Mirror). Whilst he also sees no reason to have such a conversation with the manager about his future.

Rose has featured 14 times for Tottenham Hotspur this season with Jan Vertogenhen currently the preferred choice at left-back (Transfermarkt).

Paul Robinson believes that Danny Rose has handled the situation poorly and needs to have his future sorted sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “There’s always been speculation about Danny Rose’s future and I don’t think he has handled the way he talks about his future very well over the past how many months.

“And that’s just another example of that.

“He’s made no qualms about the fact he wants to leave at some point, but I think the sooner it’s decided the better.

“I think Jose has shown with Christian Eriksen that he is not willing to suffer players who want to leave as he is willing to leave them on the bench or out of the squad.

“So if Danny Rose does want to leave, it’s a situation that needs to be sorted out sooner rather than later.”

Danny Rose has just 18 months left on his contract, which is due to expire in 2021. Spurs also have defenders Toby Alderweirled and Jan Vertonghen, along with Christian Eriksen, with six months left on their contracts.

Spurs Web Opinion

I agree with Paul Robinson about the situation with Danny Rose. Forcing him to stay at a club would not create a great atmosphere between the management and the players. His playing time has decreased and now Jan Vertogenhen seems to be the preferred choice at left-back. Danny Rose should look for a move away from the club and not create a toxic atmosphere.
