Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, grabbed all the headlines as England ran away as 7-0 winners against Montenegro on Thursday night.
The Three Lions welcomed their opponents to Wembley before dismantling them, with Kane scoring a hat-trick in the first half.
However, while the Harry up front was applauded for his performance, another Tottenham Harry started in midfield in the form of Winks.
Despite struggling to get into the Spurs starting XI of late, Winks started for Southgate and put in a very mature position in a holding/linchpin type role.
While the work that he does for England may not catch the eye, Winks’ role is to receive the ball from the defenders and keep it moving in a positive manner.
One man who was impressed with Winks in an England shirt was ex-Tottenham keeper, Paul Robinson, who believes that Winks offers something that no other England midfielder does for Gareth Southgate.
He said (Football Insider): “I think that’s what he gives you. He gives you so much more than the other England midfielders.
“For me, I think Harry Winks is one of the best of the bunch. He dominates the game, defensively and offensively he offers you both and his ball retention, the stats speak for themselves.
“A fit Harry Winks is an important selection for England.”
