Ex-Spurs man issues Harry Winks warning

Tottenham Hotspur have always had an array of wonderful talent in their youth academy, and the past few seasons have been no different.

In recent years, the likes of Harry Kane, Andros Townsend, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Winks have all burst into the first team from the youth system.

Young Luke Amos and Oliver Skipp look to be knocking on the door this season too.

Harry Winks in particular is making waves around the Tottenham camp, as he has put in some wonderful displays this season.

More often than not, he seems to be the most impressive central midfielder in Spurs’ ranks on match days, both on and off the ball.

He has the ability to pick a pass, drive forward with the ball, or even get stuck into a challenge when needed.

Like Dele Alli, Winks has that perfect mixture of class on the ball and an aggressive edge to his game that makes him hard to beat.

Ex-Spurs man Danny Murphy has warned that bringing in expensive new centre midfielders and putting them on big money will only disrupt players like Winks.

He told SkySports on The Debate: “The quality of players that they’re going for becomes better gradually.

“I think he’s progressed the club forward more quickly than anyone anticipated, but you can’t then all of a sudden go ‘let’s go and get some big players and pay them super money’.

“Because then you have a domino effect of players knocking on your door (like) Harry Winks, who I think is going to be a terrific player.”
