Ex-Spurs man wants ‘stale’ player to leave and become ‘one of the standout stars’ in PL

Darren Anderton has claimed that Dele Alli needs a fresh start away from Tottenham Hotspur if the midfielder is to ever fulfil his potential.

Alli has struggled to get much game time under Antonio Conte at Tottenham and has certainly not made the most of the few opportunities that have come his way.

The 25-year-old started in the FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe last week but was taken off around the 70th minute after a lacklustre display.

Some sources have suggested that Conte does not see Alli as part of his plans and Spurs are even willing to loan the midfielder out.

Newcastle United and West Ham are both said to be showing interest in the Tottenham midfielder this month.

Anderton believes it will be beneficial for all parties if the former MK Dons man leaves North London before the end of the month.

The former Tottenham midfielder insisted the England international has the talent to become one of the best players in the Premier League.

Anderton told The Mirror regarding Alli: “I think a move away would be the best thing for both the club and the player. Dele needs to be playing football, he needs to be on the pitch.

“He needs to be reminding Gareth Southgate what he’s capable of. He has gone stale. I want to see him out there scoring and creating goals. I don’t just want to see him on social media.

“Dele should be a key player for this team, he’s now at an age where he should be one of the standout stars in the Premier League.

“But that’s not happening. Why, I’m not too sure, but I think that getting a fresh start and making a move could be a very good thing for him.

“He needs to go somewhere where he can show what he can do. But the most important thing for him is that he’s starting every week and enjoying his football.”

I would be surprised if Dele is still at Spurs by the end of this month. His style of play is not suited to Antonio Conte’s set up and one would expect plenty of Premier League clubs to show interest in the 25-year-old. Finding a buyer for Dele would likely be a lot easier than finding one for Ndombele.
