Ex-Spurs player posts on Instagram after transferring away from the club

Vincent Janssen has posted on Instagram that he is ‘happy to be’ in Monterrey. The ex-Spurs player is clearly looking forward to getting a fresh start in a new league.

Janssen had a torrid time in North London, scoring just 2 times in 31 appearances for the club (Wikipedia).

He spent most of the last two seasons frozen out of the club and forced out on loan (Mirror). Although, he was brought back into the team for a few substitute appearances at the back end of last season.

However, it is clear that Pochettino decided that Janssen simply wasn’t good enough for Spurs as he was sold to Monterrey last week for an undisclosed fee (ESPN).

Spurs Web Opinion:

I suspect that Janssen will be able to reignite his career at a new team and a slightly lower level. But I don’t think Spurs will be regretting the sale too much in a few years as they have better options available. With the emergence of exciting youngster Troy Parrott, who many Spurs fans would like to see fast-tracked into the first-team setup (Balls.ie), they already have a ready-made backup option who Pochettino would probably prefer.

The sale of Janssen was one that made sense for both parties and we wish Janssen the best for the future. I can see him doing well in the Mexican league but I just can’t see him ever being at the level we hoped he could be when he signed for the club back in 2016.
