Ex-Spurs player predicts how far Conte will take club in the Champions League

Jamie O’Hara has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will go all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League this season.

Tottenham kick-off their Champions League campaign with a clash at home against Marseille this evening and the Lilywhites will be hoping to make a winning start.

Antonio Conte said in his press conference that at this moment, Spurs are some way off the best sides in Europe but he insisted that he and his players have the ambition to do well in the tournament (Football.London).

The North London club did get to the final of the competition three years ago and O’Hara believes they are capable of going very deep into the competition again this season.

However, the former Spurs midfielder did admit that Conte’s poor record in the competition is a bit of a worry.

O’Hara told talkSPORT Edge: “Conte’s record in Europe isn’t great, that is the one thing I’m worried about. Our group is easy, I think we’ll top the group and get to the semi-final. But then we’ll face one of the big heads and get knocked out.”

The pundit predicted that Manchester City would win the competition for the first time in their history while he suggested that Chelsea and Liverpool will get knocked out in the round of 16 and quarterfinal stages respectively.

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte’s poor record in this competition is quite bewildering as, in theory, the way he sets his teams up to absorb pressure and counter-attack, should be ideally suited to getting results in Europe.

There is always an element of unpredictability and luck involved in cup competitions, and so, it is certainly not inconceivable that we could go quite far in the tournament.
