Ex-Spurs star sold by Pochettino insists Man Utd job would be ‘perfect’ for Argentine

Former Tottenham winger, Andros Townsend has claimed that the Manchester United job would be a perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino due to the young talent currently in the Red Devils squad.

The Argentine has reportedly been on Man United’s radar for quite some time (Daily Mirror) but speculation intensified last week after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered back to back defeats against Arsenal and Istanbul Basakssehir.

Manchester Evening News reported last week that the former Tottenham boss was being lined up to replace the Norwegian in the Old Trafford hot seat if United suffered another loss against Everton.

However, the Red Devils put in an impressive display at Goodison Park on Saturday and came up with a 3-1 win.

Reports indicate that Pochettino has told the Man United hierarchy that he will not wait around for too much longer as the former Tottenham manager is also eyeing the Paris Saint-Germain job, with pressure mounting on Thomas Tuchel (The Express).

Townsend admitted that United face a difficult choice on whether to pull the plug on Solskjaer. The Crystal Palace man told talkSPORT: “I do think the United job would be perfect for him in the sense of the youngsters they have coming through.

“They continually bring youngsters through the academy. He’d be perfect to nurture them and make them into world-class players like he has done before at Spurs.

“But Ole’s done a good job; he steadied the ship when he came in. He is a disciple of Sir Alex Ferguson and he’s building for the future as well, so it’s a tough one.

“Yes, Ole is doing well, but do you want to miss out on a world-class manager like Pochettino?”

Despite the former Spurs boss being the one to offload Townsend to Palace in 2016, the winger spoke in glowing terms about the Argentine.

When asked what he was like to work with, the former England international said: “He was incredible. He loves improving players, especially young players.

“He loves finding little gems in the academy and reserves and making them into household names.

“You’ve seen that with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli and the players he brought through at Spurs.

“He’s an incredible manager. Any big club in the world would be lucky to have him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As much as I would love to see Pochettino go to PSG or Real Madrid, I believe he wants his next job to be in the Premier League and the United job is the one he has his eye on. Like Townsend, I believe he will be a perfect fit for what Untied need at the moment as they are a club who need a manager who can bring the best out of their young talent and need someone who can give them a tactical identity. I am desperately hoping that Ole pulls a couple of wins out of the bag so that they are not tempted to sack him anytime soon.
