Exclusive: Ramon Vega tips Spurs star for new contract and England call-up

Former Tottenham Hotspur star, Ramon Vega has tipped big things for young Oliver Skipp in the future, both for his boyhood club and his country.

The Spurs academy graduate enjoyed a successful season on loan with Norwich City last time out, where he played all but one Championship games and helped the Canaries to both promotion and the title.

Since returning from loan, Skipp has walked straight into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI and has been one of the most consistent performers across the season so far.

Vega has claimed the midfielder gives Tottenham a level of assurance and discipline in front of the back four, showing great attitude and maturity. The ex-Spurs man even tipped Skipp to be handed a new bumper contract and a possible future England call-up.

While Skipp has not yet made his Three Lions debut, he has played 27 times for the various England youth teams, including 11 for the U21 side (TransferMarkt).

Vega said (exclusive interview via Twitter): “I think Skipp is a great addition to his position on the team he gives that discipline and assurance between the defenders and midfield.

“He has massively grown on me how he handles himself on the pitch with maturity and great attitude.

“No doubt Nuno will see him as one of the main men on the team in the future! Skipp has a great future ahead of him if he keeps playing like that.

“Southgate must already think of him to be part of the future England team.”

When asked whether he thinks Skipp deserves a bumper new contract, Vega added: “Yes. He was fantastic against Newcastle. Let’s see if he can keep this.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I could not agree more with Ramon here. I think Skipp fully deserves a new contract with Tottenham as he is one of the first names on the teamsheet in midfield these days. Give it a few more months of consistently performing and England may come knocking.
