Expected starting XI vs Newcastle United

Spurs open their 2018/19 Premier League campaign for the second year in a row with an away trip to Newcastle United.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side enjoyed a fairly successful pre-season after winning the International Champions Cup.

Despite winning the ICC, Pochettino did not have the majority of his World Cup stars to select from with a total of nine players making at least the semi-finals.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see which of the World Cup stars who returned Monday 6 August will be fit enough to start.

World Cup winner, Hugo Lloris could make his return to the side after his prolonged summer break despite some solid performances from Michel Vorm and Paulo Gazzaniga in pre-season.

Although Toby Alderweireld is still a Tottenham player we do not expect him to return straight back to the squad after his turbulent summer – although we are all dreaming of a Vertonghen/Sanchez/Alderweireld.

In midfield, there is an awful lot of dispute to who could start.

Luke Amos has surely earned himself a place in the starting lineup after his sensational pre-season and we expect Christian Eriksen to play a free-roam role around the youngster.

Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura are both expected to start out wide and we could see Dele Alli return straight back into action – if not, expect Moussa Sissoko to play against his former side.

Up top, we are all hoping for Harry Kane to return and break his curse of never having scored in the month of August.

However, he is another player who had a hectic summer at the World Cup so do not be surprised should he be benched as Fernando Llorente leads the attack.

Spurs fans, there is a lot of room for manoeuvre in this starting XI so we want to hear your thoughts!
