Expert statistician predicts Tottenham’s Champions League hopes

Tottenham Hotspur stand a good chance of making their first ever Champions League semi final on Wednesday night as they take on Manchester City.

In the only all-English quarter final, Spurs take a 1-0 advantage into the away leg after a late Heung Min Son goal at the new stadium last week.

This year could represent the best chance Tottenham will have to win the whole tournament in a good while, with a number of high profile teams having been knocked out, such as Real Madrid and PSG.

There are also no stand out teams you could pick as definite favourites to lift the trophy, and any of the four sides that make the semis will have a good chance.

Nate Silver, a 41-year-old statistician who rose to fame by predicting the outcomes of back to back US elections, has now taken a shot at the Champions League (Football London).

Once named in the top 100 most influential people in the world, Silver’s model claims that Liverpool are favourites, with a 29% chance of winning the tournament.

Barcelona are next with 27%, then Man City on 23%, followed by fourth favourites Tottenham on 8%. Juventus are next on 7%, followed by Ajax on 5%, and Porto and Man United on 1% each.

Tottenham also apparently have a 25% chance of making the final.
