‘Extend his contract’ – Club director shoots warning over Spurs target’s future

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham in their rumoured pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic, Fiorentina general director Joe Barone has revealed that the Serie A club are working on extending the striker’s contract.

Vlahovic set the Serie A alight last season, not only scoring 21 goals but also proving adept at holding up the ball and running the channels.

It was previously reported that while the young striker was also attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus, Spurs were at the front of the queue for his signature.

Some sources even suggested a couple of weeks ago that the 21-year-old could be the first player to arrive through the door at the North London club this summer.

However, based on Barone’s latest claim, it looks as though Tottenham’s pursuit of Vlahovic is going to prove anything but straightforward.

The Fiorentina director was certainly bullish about keeping the Serbian international at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

He said (as relayed by Fabrizio Romano): “Dusan Vlahovic is our player until June 2023 and we’re working to extend his contract as soon as possible.”

Vlahovic is a well-rounded striker with barely any weakness and he does fit the mould of what modern coaches look for in their centre-forwards. One can certainly understand why Paratici would be interested in the Serbian.

However, not only will be a challenge to convince Fiorentina to sell the 21-year-old but it will also not be easy to persuade Vlahovic that he will get enough game time at Spurs if Harry Kane stays.
