Fabio Paratici explains why Tottenham signed Yves Bissouma this summer

Fabio Paratici has revealed that Tottenham were keen on snapping up Yves Bissouma since he has a different skillset compared to the midfielders already at the North London club.

Although Bissouma has come on as a substitute in almost every match so far this season, he has made just one start – the 1-1 draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

The former Brighton man is currently being kept out of Tottenham’s starting eleven by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, whose partnership in the middle of the park is continuing to blossom for the Lilywhites.

Two weeks ago, Antonio Conte praised the Mali international’s attributes but admitted that the 26-year-old is a ‘step behind’ Hojbjerg and Bentancur since he is still learning about his role in Spurs’ system (Football.London).

However, Paratici is not in any doubt that Bissouma will be an asset for Tottenham once he gets accustomed to the team’s style of play.

He told Spurs TV: “Bissouma has some different skills to our midfielders. He’s better in one-v-ones technically speaking, he can even shoot from distance.

“He’s a bit different with his skills, so he has to enter in our mechanism because the team is now really well organised. Super organised. Coming into the team is not easy for players, it takes a bit of time to adapt.”

Bissouma is at his best when given the freedom to carry the ball. However, in Conte’s system, the role of the central midfielders is very specific. So, the former Brighton man needs to learn to express himself within the tactical confines of the system, which might take time.
