Fabio Paratici suffers huge blow after appeal is rejected

The College of Guarantee of Sport have rejected Fabio Paratici’s appeal against his two-and-a-half year ban from football, as confirmed by The Mirror.

The hearing commenced yesterday afternoon and ran into Thursday after no decision was reached before the close of the hearing on Wednesday.

Juventus and a number of their former directors, including Paratici appealed against sanctions handed down by an Italian court in January for false accounting, and their case was heard by the Italian Olympic Committee.

The Serie A giants were successful in having their 15-point deduction reversed and have now moved up to third place in the table.

The Italian Olympic Committee had no power to overturn or alter the Paratici’s ban, only to send the original case back to court, which could have lead to a retrial in May.

Paratici is also facing a separate investigation by UEFA.

The Italian is currently on a leave of absence from his role as Tottenham’s managing director of football with Spurs revealing in a statement that they will consider the outcome of his appeal before deciding what to do next.

It is difficult to see how Paratici can remain at Tottenham given the verdict of today’s appeal, any influence which he has in the club’s search for a new manager should also be scrapped given the circumstances.

Daniel Levy now faces the prospect of having to look to reshuffle his football operations after appearing to take a backwards step with his responsibilities in recent times and now will lead the search for Antonio Conte’s successor.
