Fabrizio Romano provides response when about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Tielemans

Fabrizio Romano has said that Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is not considered a priority for Tottenham this summer.

Spurs have been one of the busiest clubs this summer in terms of incomings so far but it has emerged over recent days that Antonio Conte also wishes to add another creative midfielder to his squad this transfer window (Evening Standard).

It was reported earlier in the transfer window that Tielemens was one of the names on Tottenham’s radar (GiveMeSport).

However, this was denied by Alasdair Gold, who said on his YouTube Channel (starting at 38:44) last week that Spurs have shot down claims of any interest in the Leicester star.

The journalist claimed that while the Lilywhites have had their eye on the 25-year-old in the past, he does not appear to be a target for the club this summer.

Arsenal have now emerged as the favourites to snap up Tielemens, with reports indicating over recent days that the Gunners have stepped up their pursuit of the midfielder (Football.London).

Romano has now said that Tottenham’s full focus is now on getting the Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence deals over the line.

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Tielemens, he told GiveMeSport: “I see a lot of stories but at the moment I don’t have any confirmation on Tottenham [the club’s links with Tielemans] and I think they’re focused on signing a right-back and centre-back with [Clement] Lenglet after also signing Richarlison, so it’s not a priority for them.”

Despite reports to the contrary earlier this summer, it appears Tielemens was never really a target for Spurs, which makes sense considering that the Belgian would not fit into Conte’s preferred 3-4-3 system. That is perhaps the same reason why Tottenham decided against pursuing Christian Eriksen.
