Fabrizio Romano believes long-term Spurs first-teamer will leave club in the summer

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that he believes that Erik Lamela could leave Tottenham Hotspur next summer.

Lamela is the only remaining member of Tottenham’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ which saw the club sign the Argentine along with Paulino, Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen following the departure of Gareth Bale for a then-world record £85million fee to Real Madrid in 2013 (BBC).

The midfielder, who was 21 at the time made the switch from Roma for £25.7million (BBC) but has failed to live up to his potential in North London which has been marred by a number of injuries (transfermarkt).

Romano revealed in an interview with the Last Word on Spurs podcast (Jan 14 / 32:03) that Lamela, 28, would like to return to Italy but at present, there are no Serie A clubs with a winger on their radar, with a move during the summer likely to signal an exit from Spurs.

Lamela returned to the Spurs first team on Wednesday evening when he came on as a second-half substitute against Fulham in his first appearance since breaking COVID-19 rules at Christmas (Independent).
