Fabrizio Romano claims another Spurs star is ‘ready to discuss a new contract’

Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham are not done with handing out contract extensions to players following the news of Destiny Udogie’s new deal, with Pape Matar Sarr now ready to enter into negotiations with the North London club.

Udogie was rewarded for his outstanding performances this season with a new long-term deal, with Tottenham confirming on Tuesday that the left-back had put pen to paper on a new deal which runs until 2030.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the 21-year-old expressed his delight at the agreement, admitting that he has felt at home at the North London club from day one.

Earlier this week, Football.London suggested that Sarr might be the next in line to receive a new contract, with the outlet stating that the midfielder is ‘unlikely to be far behind’ Udogie, who scored his first goal for the club at the weekend in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United in North London.

Pape Matar Sarr in line for new Spurs contract

Romano has now backed up that claim, suggesting that Tottenham have a number of new deals in the pipeline after the Italian international put pen to paper.

The journalist suggested that the Lilywhites have been impressed with Sarr’s displays this season and that the Senegalese international is now ‘ready’ to open talks with the club.

Romano said on The Here We Go Podcast: “Yes, the new signing of Udogie is going to be in excess of €2m net per season, so new salary, longer contract until 2030, so everything is going to with Udogie, it was revealed on Monday and then confirmed by the club.

“Tottenham want to keep going with this contract extensions. Another player they want to offer a deal is for example Pape Matar Sarr, who is always doing very well in the midfield, very talented midfielder who joined almost two years ago and now is ready to discuss a new contract.

“So, there will be some discussions also with other players. For Udogie, it was important for the salary, the length of the contract was really very good for Tottenham, 2027, but they wanted to make sure that the salary was good enough and now also other players will discuss new deals at Tottenham where honestly, all the players, almost all the players are very happy with Ange.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are doing the prudent thing by offering their younger players bumper deals as Sarr (like Udogie previously) is on a relatively modest contract and Spurs would know that several of Europe’s big hitters might be sniffing around the 21-year-old midfielder.

Matar Sarr’s impact on the side has been huge and it’s clear to see that Bissouma’s performances are much better when he is partnered with the talented youngster compared to the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Oliver Skipp.
