Fabrizio Romano claims attacking midfielder ‘dreams’ of joining Spurs this summer

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Ruslan Malinovskyi would jump at the chance to join Tottenham before the transfer window closes but the North Londoners have not submitted an offer to Atalanta for the attacking midfielder yet.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Malinovskyi over the past couple of weeks, with TuttoMercatoWeb reporting last Friday that the 29-year-old is destined to leave Bergamo and the North London club could soon begin negotiations for the player.

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini seemingly hinted over the weekend the Ukrainian will depart Bergamo by revealing that the club are on the lookout for a suitable replacement for the former Genk star (The Evening Standard).

Malinonvskyi started for the Serie A club in their clash against AC Milan on Monday and found the back of the net in the 1-1 draw. After the game, the Atalanta star took to social media to tweet: “God’s Plan”.

Romano has now explained that Malinovski would join Spurs in a heartbeat if he could but Marseille are the only club who have made an offer for the player so far. The journalist added that the Ligue 1 club’s bid has been turned down by Atalanta.

When asked about Spurs’ interest in Malinovski, Romano said on the Here We Go podcast (23/08/22): “It is true that Ruslan Malinovski dreams of Tottenham. He would love to join Tottenham. So, from the player’s side, the message is pretty clear.

“But the only club who have made an official proposal, at the moment, to Atalanta is Olympique Marseille – a swap deal with Cengiz Under but On Atalanta’s side, it’s a ‘no’ on current conditions.

“So, no agreement with Marseille as of now for Malinovskyi. Let’s see if Tottenham decide to jump into it or not.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite the speculation linking Spurs with the likes of Dan James and Anthony Gordon over recent days, I still think Malinovski is the most likely player to replace Gil if the Spaniard rejoins Valencia on loan.

The Ukrainian is likely to be content with a bit-part role at Tottenham and his versatility would enable him to operate in multiple positions.
