Fabrizio Romano claims Conte move to Spurs cannot be ruled out

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that while talks between Tottenham and Antonio Conte have been halted, there is still a possibility that the Italian could be the club’s next manager.

Some Spurs fans on social media were left bitterly disappointed when it emerged that the North London club had pulled back from their talks with Conte.

However, some reports have indicated that the Italian is still ‘tempted’ by the Tottenham job and a move is still on the cards.

Romano has now explained in an interview to Chris Colwin’s YouTube Channel (starting at 0:54) that Conte was enthusiastic about a move to Spurs until Friday.

The journalist revealed that Spurs and Conte’s camp had several areas of disagreement during the negotiations, one of which being that the North London club only wanted him to bring four members of staff along with him.

Romano added that Conte’s demands have not changed since the two parties held talks last week and that it is up to Tottenham to meet them if they want to appoint him as their next head coach.

The journalist also added that Conte has clear ideas about what he wants and is unlikely to say yes unless he gets his way completely.

Romona also explained that the developments over the last few days were ‘normal’ during negotiations such as this, with both parties trying to get their way.

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is understandable why fans would be disappointed at the talks with Conte falling through, some of the reaction from Spurs fans on social media has been embarrassing.

How can fans accuse Levy and the club’s ownership of lacking ambition to attract Conte when we have no idea what the Italian was demanding?

The club’s finances are not in great shape and it would be incredibly irresponsible for a self-sustaining club like Spurs to bet everything on Conte without worrying about how that would impact the club’s long-term financial health.
