Fabrizio Romano claims Erik Lamela is on verge of Spurs exit as part of swap deal

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Erik Lamela is on the verge of leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

Romano has taken to Twitter to report that the Argentine is being used as part of a deal with Sevilla which would see Bryan Gil move to North London.

It is said that Sevilla will also receive €25m (£21.6m) + add ons as part of a permanent transfer

Gil is a 20-year-old left winger who featured 30 times on loan at Eibar in all competitions last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists (transfermarkt).

Lamela arrived at Tottenham in August 2013 as a 21-year-old for a £25.7m fee along with £4.2m in bonus payments as part of the funds which saw the club go on a shopping spree following the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid (BBC).

SpursWeb Opinion

Lamela is one of Tottenham’s longest-serving players but has failed to live up to the early hype that surrounded him as a teenager.

Injuries have significantly plighted his progress at Spurs and while nobody can deny his tenacity and tendency to pick up a yellow card, he struggles to influence matches and take a game by the scruff of its neck.

A move to Spain would suit the Argentine, who could look to reinvigorate his career at the age of29.
