Fabrizio Romano claims rumoured Tottenham target is heading to Bundesliga club

In what comes as a blow to Tottenham Hotspur, Fabrizio Romano has revealed on social media that rumoured target is Dominik Szoboszlai is on his way to RB Leipzig.

Multiple sources over the last month confirmed (The Athletic and BILD via Sport Witness) that Tottenham were in the race for the highly-rated Hungarian who had been turning a lot of heads with his performances over the last year and a half.

However, Tottenham always faced an uphill battle to land the 20-year-old, with reports indicating that many clubs across the continent were interested in signing the RB Salzburg star (90min.com).

The Daily Mirror claimed at the start of the month that Leipzig, being Salzburg’s sister club, held the upper hand in the race for the attacking midfielder.

It now looks like Szoboszlai is indeed on his way to way to Leipzig, with Romano claiming that the Hungarian international will announce his decision in the coming week after the Bundesliga club agreed to pay his release clause.

Snapping up a player of Szoboszlai’s potential for €25m is an unbelievable bargain but we were always going to be unlikely to win the race for his signature given the amount of interest he was generating. I am not surprised that he has taken the route that many young talents from Salzburg do by moving to Leipzig. I expect his value to potentially triple after a season or two in the Bundesliga.
