Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs are no longer prioritising deal for PL attacker

Fabrizio Romano has played down the chances of Tottenham Hotspur making a move for Everton winger Anthony Gordon this transfer window.

Over the last few months, multiple publications have reported on the possibility of Spurs reigniting their interest in Gordon after failing to get a deal for the 21-year-old over the line during the summer transfer window (Football.London).

It emerged in November that Spurs were battling Chelsea for the winger’s signature (The Daily Express) while Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas suggested just two weeks ago on The Last Word On Spurs YouTube Channel that Antonio Conte’s men are continuing to keep an eye on the youngster.

However, the speculation linking Gordon with a move to Tottenham has died down over recent weeks, with Brighton’s Leandro Trossard seemingly emerging as one of the club’s top attacking targets (Football Insider).

Romano has now said that Spurs are prioritising other attackers this transfer window and revealed that Everton have offered Gordon a new contract.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Everton have offered Anthony Gordon a new deal, let’s see how talks will go in the next months. Chelsea have decided to invest in Mykhaylo Mudryk. So they’re not in talks to sign Gordon now.

“Tottenham monitored him in the last few months but they now feel they need different players as a priority.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It does seem like Tottenham have decided against pursuing Gordon for the time being, which is not very surprising as the 21-year-old has struggled to recapture the form he showed last season. However, should the winger decide against signing a new deal at Goodison Park, I would not be surprised if Spurs reignited their interest in him next summer.
