Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs are ‘unlikely’ to win the race for 21-year-old

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United starlet James Garner is not likely to end up at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Man United were ready to cash in on Garner, who excelled on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Championship last season.

The report claimed that the Red Devils value the midfielder at £14m, with Spurs named as one of the clubs interested in the youngster along with Everton, Southampton and Leeds. The Telegraph also named Spurs as leaders in the race alongside Nottingham Forest.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon subsequently claimed on Patreon that Tottenham had launched an opening bid for Garner but he added that the North London club’s offer falls short of Man United’s valuation of the player.

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that the 21-year-old is expected to have chances to leave Old Trafford over the coming days.

The journalist claimed, however, that the midfielder is not expected to end up at Spurs, with three or four clubs said to be keen on signing him.

Garner will probably want to join a club where he feels he has a realistic shot of getting game time this season. The 21-year-old would rightly feel that he has a much better chance of breaking into the starting eleven at Leeds or Southampton than he does at Spurs.
