Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs could make a surprising managerial appointment

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have not ruled out a potential surprise when appointing a new manager.

Tottenham’s search for a new head coach is now expected to accelerate following the conclusion of the season, with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold claiming that an appointment could be confirmed within the next ten days.

The Athletic have claimed that the club are yet to make up their mind regarding their search but name Erik Ten Hag and Ralf Rangnick as the two front-runners for the role.

Romano had insisted last week (on the Here We Go Podcast) that the North Londoners had narrowed down their search to three names.

The journalist has now added that a surprise could also be on the cards but ruled out the possibility of Nuno Espirito Santo or Ten Hag getting the job.

He wrote in his column for The Benchwarmers: “There was a meeting with Erik ten Hag two weeks ago, but the club has chosen to look for other candidates and Ten Hag extended his agreement with Ajax.

“Hansi Flick will not arrive because he will coach the German national team, while Nuno Espirito Santo has left Wolverhampton but is not on the Spurs list.

“The choice will be made shortly, there are three candidates on Daniel Levy’s list: Tottenham does not rule out surprises.”
