Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs could move for La Liga defender again in the future

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could make an approach for Villareal centre-back Pau Torres at the end of the season.

Tottenham are expected to be after a left-sided centre-back this month as Antonio Conte looks to rebuild the squad.

The North Londoners have been linked with the likes of Clement Lenglet, Matthijs De Ligt, and Alessio Romagnoli over recent weeks.

Romano has now suggested that Torres could be another option on the North Londoners’ radar.

Tottenham reportedly tabled an offer worth £55 million for the Villarreal man last summer but he chose to stay put at his boyhood club.

Sources from Spain have revealed that Villarreal had accepted Spurs’ bid but the 24-year-old ‘preferred to wait for a better offer’.

Romano has now said on the Last Word on Spurs’ YouTube channel (starting at 18.41) that the Spain international is the profile of player the Lilywhites are looking to sign.

He revealed that Fabio Paratici was keen on signing the 24-year-old last summer and that the Spurs managing director of football could try again for the defender in the future.

While the journalist made it clear that it would be ‘impossible’ to sign Torres in January, he added that Spurs could reignite their interest in the centre-back in the summer if they qualify for the Champions League.

Torres would be a brilliant signing for Spurs as he has a higher ceiling than any of the other centre-backs we have been linking with (potentially baring De Ligt). However, Tottenham are likely to face plenty of competition from across the continent for the 24-year-old.
